Exothermic Engineering LLC began operation in February of 2006, founded by Bill Smith, an early retiree of Burns & McDonnell Engineering Co. Eventually adding more employees, the predominent business model became one of hiring exceptional retirees who wanted to continue work. All Exothermic Engineering employees are set up with a home-based office, and work mostly from home. In most cases their health benefits are secure, and there is no need for a vacation & sick leave fund. This business model allows us to pay the employee very well, and still maintain rates lower than the industry average.
Presently the company has offices in Missouri (home office in Liberty, MO), Kansas and Nebraska. Staff is active in PRB Coal Users' Group, Subcommitte on Mill Inerting, and NFPA 85 technical committees on Fundamentals, Multiple Burner Boilers, and Stokers.
